Conference 2009

Conference 2009 will be a combined event with EVU.

Click here to learn more about EVU

Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September 2009

on Friday 25th there will be a field day at MIRA

Conference Venue:

The Hinckley Island Hotel

A5 Watling Street Hinckley

Leicestershire LE10 3JA

United Kingdom

Field Day:

MIRA  Test Facility

The field day is focused around the use of technology within modern motor vehicles with delegate participation being a key feature.

There will be demonstrations of modern technology including ESC, automatic braking and automatic hazard detection and braking with additional activities planned.

Delegates will have to opportunity to drive a variety of vehicles including Coaches, Bendy Buses, Routemasters, Petrol Tankers and Articulated lorries which they would not normally drive. This will be conducted in a private area, with instructors on each vehicle, the delegates will need to have a current licence but will not need to have the category of licence for that particular vehicle.

MIRA has a state of the art wet track area, or low friction surface, which will be used to allow delegates to have a driving experience, with MIRA staff, using vehicles with all the electronics that are on a modern vehicle enabled and then turn them off to experience for themselves what effect they have on vehicle stability when driven in harsh conditions.

There are three workshops planned: US Collision Data Retrieval Tool, Scene photography, and (to be confirmed) Honda Collision avoidance/mitigation system and the latest generation ABS 2.

Shoulder Events To Conference

Vehicle Accident Reconstruction Methods Course - Brach Engineering:
On Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 September 2009, the two days prior to the Conference Field day Institute members have an opportunity to attend a Vehicle Accident Reconstruction Methods Course being run by Brach Engineering at the Hinkley Island Hotel.

This seminar is devoted to the exposition, use and limitations of the engineering, scientific and mathematical principles and methods used to reconstruct vehicular accidents. The primary objective is to help the attendees achieve a high level of understanding of these methods. The course covers a wide range of topics including uncertainty, impact mechanics, Tyre mechanics, vehicle-pedestrian impacts and vehicle dynamics. Most of the calculations can be carried out using commonly available spreadsheet technology suitable for personal computer use.

More information about the course and costs may be found on the forthcoming events page or download course content details pdf here.

To find out even more about the course please contact: Matt_Brach@BrachEngineering.com or Ray_Brach@BrachEngineering.com
