Crash Test and Research Day
Thursday 21st June 2018 at Bruntingthorpe Airfield and Proving Ground, Leicestershire
The Institute’s 2018 crash test and research day, sponsored by Leica Geosystems and the National Salvage Group, will be organised along similar lines to the 2017 event, but with a wider variety of crash tests at a range of speeds. For the first time additional testing will be undertaken involving motorcycles carrying a dummy rider being propelled into impact with a stationary car. There will again be an area dealing with gathering data from low speed impacts for the benefit of those delegates from the insurance industry studying whiplash injuries. Some of the vehicles involved in all types of tests will be fitted with telematics equipment by the companies whose logos appear below.
The organising group have taken notice of the feedback from delegates relating to the 2017 event, but still welcome ideas from the membership and other delegates for research at the 2018 event.
There will be a range of delegate participation opportunities, including driving specialist vehicles, such as large goods vehicles, buses and fire engines. There will also be vehicle handling opportunities, including driving vehicles with underinflated tyres, incomplete wheel braking, steering a curved path on the limit of adhesion and driving at least one type of autonomous vehicle.
Attendance at the Crash Test and Research Day is not confined to members of the Institute and is free of charge to those who register in advance.
All places are taken! Hope you got a ticket – see you there!
