Crash Test and Research Day
Thursday 20th June 2019 at Bruntingthorpe Airfield and Proving Ground, Leicestershire
The Institute’s 2019 crash test and research day, sponsored by Leica Geosystems and the National Salvage Group, will be organised along similar lines to the 2018 event, but with an even wider variety of crash tests at a range of speeds. In addition, it is hoped that facilities will be in place to allow offset barrier collision testing. There will again be an area dealing with gathering data from low speed impacts for the benefit of those delegates from the insurance industry studying whiplash injuries. Several of the vehicles involved in tests will be fitted with telematics equipment by the companies whose logos appear below.
Delegate participation opportunities to drive specialist vehicles such as large goods vehicles, buses and fire engines, will be available. In addition, there will also be vehicle handling opportunities, including driving vehicles with underinflated tyres, incomplete wheel braking, steering a curved path on the limit of adhesion and driving at least one type of autonomous vehicle.
Attendance at the Crash Test and Research Day is not confined to members of the Institute and is free of charge. For safety and security reasons, those attending must register in advance.
